Dropping into your inbox with news about an important cause close to my heart, plus some upcoming ice dance books to add to your TBR.
But first, don’t forget my upcoming events (which are on my website now, please clap):
Thursday June 25th (that’s tomorrow!) — Sports Romance Panel at the Oakbrook Center Barnes & Noble with Jennifer Iacopelli & Liz Lincoln
Sunday June 28th — Chicago book tour stop for Courtney Kocak’s memoir Girl Gone Wild at Three Avenues Bookshop, featuring me & Lauren Emily Whalen
Tuesday June 30th — in conversation with Tia Williams for her The Missed Connection launch event at Matchmaker Books in Highland Park
Hope to see you at one of those events! (Or more than one if you’re stalking me…)
Figure Skating For All, an advocacy group working to ensure a safer and more inclusive environment for trans skaters, officially launched earlier this week.
I was proud to participate in the demonstration co-founder Anna Kellar organized at Skate America last fall, as well as to sign this open letter urging the U.S. figure skating federation to reverse its policy limiting the “female” category of skating to athletes assigned female at birth.
Policies like this are never about keeping women and girls safe, they are intended to police the bodies of cis and trans women alike and uphold patriarchal structures that harm us all. As the letter so eloquently puts it: “We can create more safety for women and girls in skating only by expanding parameters of femininity, not narrowing them.”
I urge you to read the letter in its entirety and consider adding your name. Even if you’re a fan of fictional figure skating, your support is much appreciated!
And speaking of fictional figure skating, not one but two ice dance-centric novels had cover reveals this week: Melanie Sweeney’s Kiss and Cry (March 16, 2027) and Jennifer Iacopelli’s much-anticipated Finding Her Edge sequel On Thin Ice (May 4, 2027).
If you’re a Favorites fan, you’ll want to keep an eye out for these 2027 releases. Or better yet, preorder them — it’s like buying a present for your future self!
And if you’re wondering what’s going on with my 2027 ice dance book… well, so are my editors 🫣 Back to the writing cave for me!

Thanks so much for sharing K&C, Layne! I can’t wait for aaaallll the skating books coming out next year, especially yours!!
Kiss and cry looks SOOOO phenomenal
