Moving Along
Out with the old and Into the Blue
Thanks for all the kind responses to The Favorites Netflix deal news! The story got picked up by a few other outlets too, which was fun to see:
One of the Best-Selling Books of 2025 is Being Adapted for the Screen (Her.ie)
The Favorites Skates to Netflix: Everything We Know About Layne Fargo’s Book Adaptation (Swooon)
(Also, shout-out to Avery at Swooon for manifesting Brandon Perea for the role of Heath Rocha just as hard as I am! ❤️)
I’ll keep this short and sweet today, because I am moving next week and have about one billion tasks on my to-do list (including working on The Ice Queens, which at one point I reallllly hoped to be done writing before the move but lol not so much).
No newsletter next Wednesday for the same reason, but here are three of my current obsessions for you to watch / read / enjoy in the meantime:
🍎 Forbidden Fruits
I loved Jennifer’s Body before it was cool, so obviously I was seated for this Diablo Cody-produced campy high femme horror movie starring bicon Lili Reinhart. As my friend and I were leaving the theater, I told her that if I’d seen Forbidden Fruits in my twenties, I would have immediately made it my entire personality — and you know what, even though I’m in my forties, I still might!
🇬🇧 The Diplomat
I am extremely late to the party on this one, but my partner and I just binged all three available seasons over the past few weeks and it was a delight. The perfect balance of soapiness and seriousness, and the relationship between the central couple (Keri Russell & my eternal crush Rufus Sewell) is one of the most complex and fascinating marriages I’ve ever seen in media. If you haven’t watched yet, catch up now before season four drops on Netflix later this year.
💙 Into the Blue by Emma Brodie
This novel comes out next week, but if you’ve been to any of my events over the past six months you’ve probably heard me yap about it. The genre of The Favorites is still up for debate, but whatever genre it is, Into the Blue is too. There’s even a spicy scene Emma refers to as the “Heathcliffian death fuck” (you’ll know it when you read it). My official blurb:
“This book was like nothing I’ve ever read before: both Gothic and geeky, hilarious and heart-wrenching, a masterclass in scorching sexual tension and a poignant meditation on the true meaning of intimacy. Into the Blue is my new obsession, and it will be yours too.”
See you in two weeks, when I’ll be coming at you live from my brand new home office overlooking my favorite cemetery!

I'm so excited for the adaptation of The Favorites! Good luck with your move!
