Reality is often stranger than fiction, especially in the figure skating world, and one of the most fun parts of writing The Favorites and now The Ice Queens has been finding ways to work in real-life details from my research. The Casualty Tour

In my research on various figure skating tours past and present, I found this Washington Post article on the 1987 Tour of Olympic & World Figure Skating Champions, which mentions that so many bizarre, random injuries befell the cast both on and off the ice, they started referring it as “the casualty tour.”

Now you know that had me rubbing my sadistic writerly hands together with glee! Injuries included:
